The Team is organising a Sea and Mud cycle challenge Whit Weekend - Saturday
3rd - Monday 5th May 2008.
What
is the challenge The challenge is to cycle on mountain bikes from the East
cost of England to the West Coast - A total of 187 miles over three days. The
challenge will start with your back wheel in the Sea at Tynemouth on the North-East
coast and goes via Bellingham, through Keilder to finish when your front wheel
gets wet at Whitehaven on the North West coast. More information about the route
can be found in the Reivers-Guide.
Each day cyclists will ride approximately 60 miles. There will be a support van
to shadow cyclists along the route and carry equipment - this means less to carry
whilst riding. A kit list will be published shortly. An
outline plan is available here. The organisers will provide the necessary
logistical support for the event including transport back to the start after the
event. Funds raised will be split between TWSMRT, The Fire Service Benevolent
Fund and Fire & Ice Expeditions. Funds raised for the Rescue Team from
this event will be used to support general running costs (currently about £20
000 pa). Participants are asked for a £65 non returnable deposit as
soon as possible. This will be used to pay for the accomodation for two nights
and to hire a minibus and a van for transport during the event and back from Whitehaven
at the end of the event on the Sunday. Participants are also expected to raise
a minimum of a further £100 sponsorship. All sponsorship/donations can potentially
be gift aided. Anyone interested in taking part in the event should contact
the organiser ASAP. The application form is now
available here. Outline terms and conditions
are available here to help maximise the fun! Sponsor
form now available here.
