The Team continued their search for the missing 67 year old male from the Belmont area of Durham City. The search continuation was focused on the eastern range of the previous search lead by sightings of missing person on the day he went missing. The search area was difficult to cover because of established crops and dense undergrowth. Nothing found.

Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team were involved in the search yesterday (Tuesday) for an elderly gentleman missing from home. The 67 year old had not been seen since leaving his home in the Carrville area of Durham on Sunday. John Little, team duty controller said "The police called us out at 7am yesterday. Twelve members of the team spent 12 hours searching farmland, abandoned railway lines and a golf course to the east of the gentlemans house. We also brought in our canoe group to search the River Wear near to Carrville but we have found no sign of the gentleman". Initial call made at 6am with about 20 Team members contributing to the search through the course of the day. The search area included: woodland, farmland, abandoned railway lines and a golf course to the east of the gentlemans house. The Team's canoe group also searched the River Wear from Durham to Finchale. No signs of the missing man were found.

Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team based in County Durham were asked to help yesterday (2nd June) following the Cumbria shootings. The team were called out at 6pm on Wednesday to assist the Lake District Mountain Rescue Teams. They were tasked with search hedgerows and verges on roads radiating out from the village of Rowrah in case any other people had been involved in the shooting. No one was found and the search was stood down at 9am today (Thursday). Steve Owers team spokesman said " this was as unusual search as usually we want to find individuals but in the case the opposite was true. We worked closely with mountain rescue search dogs brought down from Scotland and fortunately no further persons were found".

13.00 hrs Stanhope Fells - Team members out with TWSMRT Youth section on hill training came across a party of 18 people on a sponsored walk. They were completely lost and tired. Team members and assited them across swollen streams and escorted them off the hill.

18.00 hrs Call out to search for two missing hillwalkers lost and cold in the North pennines. KSMRT and PMRT involved. Team deployed 16 personnel and three SARDA dogs and utilised the local specialist knowledge of a gamekeeper. Both walkers located safe and well by Teesdale Team at approx 22.00 hrs.

20.30 hrs Call out to rescue female snowbound on Swinhope Head road in Weardale. Police helicopter turned back due to fresh snowfall. Team member reached driver and took her back to the valley. Driver unfamiliar with area had been following the SAT NAV, which directed her over one of the highest roads in the UK. This road which climbs past the ski area remains completely snowbound and has been so since 16th December 2009!

Teesdale & Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team were called into a major search for a fisherman missing on the North East coast of County Durham. Team Leader Dave Bartles-Smith said “The fisherman is believed to have been fishing near Blackhall Rocks in County Durham. Fifteen mountain rescue personnel from Teesdale and Weardale and the Cleveland mountain rescue team are working with the Coastguard, police and an RAF Sea King helicopter to locate the gentleman”. No trace of the missing person was found on the shore line, cliffs or nearby farm and woodland.

Call by Cumbria Police to rescue a total of 5 adults from 3 vehicles who had become snow bound on the Middleton to Brough road, having ignored the road closed signs. Kirby Stephen MRT together with TWSMRT battled through very strong winds and deep drifting snow to the stranded vehicles and recovered the occupants to Middleton in Teesdale.

The team was called to look for a private ambulance broken down in snow drifts with 3 people on board between Middleton in Teesdale and Alston. One team member drove the B6277 in company with a Durham Police Landrover. Found the broken down vehicle and transported the 3 occupants to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

20:55hrs A car was found abandoned in a country lane, reports of a male leaving the scene in severe weather conditions. After initial Police enquiries,concerns for the Mispers well being. Immediate search of the area carried out, misper was located lost and cold 8 miles from his abandoned car by a Police officer on his way home after initiating this callout.

0135hrs Request from Cumbria Constabulary for the team to assist in the rescue recovery of two people stranded on the Middleton to Brough road. Three team members were tasked to drive the road in the teams’ specialist land rover to recover the motorists. Both people were recovered safe and well the incident concluded around 0500hrs.

Team member En route to Brough snow incident came across several vehicles snowed in on Consett to Stanhope road. Dug / dragged out a number of vehicles and utilised tractors and snow ploughs to make way back to Consett end of road. Escorted all vehicles back in convoy (10 in total, approx 20 people).

Just before 6pm the team carried out a joint operation with Kirby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team and an RAF Helicopter from Boulmer in Northumberland to rescue stranded motorists from the Middleton in Teesdale to Brough road. 6 people were airlifted from cars stuck in snow by helicopter and taken to Middleton and Kirby Stephen. Dave Bartles-Smith (Team Leader) said "we would like to remind motorists the we have some of the highest roads in England in County Durham. These roads can become impassable very quickly if the wind blows snow across them. Can we ask motorists who may use these roads to consider the conditions before they set out and to carry warm clothes, food and a shovel.

The team were called to a search in Chester-le-Street for a 50 year old man. John Little team controller said "the police were concerned for the gentleman's welfare. We had 19 mountain rescue volunteers searching the non urban areas to the north of Chester-le Street until it got dark. The search was then suspended while the police make more inquires".

TWSMRT, already in the area dealing with a number incidents,joined forces with Swaledale, Kirkby Stephen & Keswick MRT to search for a missing Police Officer who was swpet away when a bridge collapsed. Search of rivers banks by Swift Water Technicians. "The body of a man, reportedly in police uniform, has been found in the search for PC Bill Barker, police said." (The Guardian Website) The body of Bill Barker was later discovered on the beach.

09.00 hrs search continues for missing male in Ferryhill. Daylight hours search conducted by Swaledale MRT and North of Tyne MRT, whilst we rested. RAF Seaking returned to assist. TWSMRT rejoined search at 16.00 hrs along with further support from Cleveland MRT. Search continued until 01.00 hrs the next day. An almost continuous 30 hour search by MRTs stood down with nothing found.

Called by police after a report of a stabbing in woods near Chester-le-street. Two search dogs deployed but stood down after a couple of hours when nothing found and no report of anyone missing.

Called out at 0230hrs to search for 41 year old male in Bournemoor area, who was believed to be at very high risk of injury. Missing person found by a member of the public who alerted the Team who provided casualty care until county ambulance arrived.

Team member carried out a rescue from the River Wear at Durham after a male had fallen into the water. The team member stabilised the casualty in the water, no physical injuries other than the on onset of hypothermea. Casualty was extricated from the water with the assistance of the Fire & Rescue Service, Police & Ambulance Service.
