Police were informed on Thursday night that three girl students from Sunderland Polytechnic had failed to complete a fell walk from Doctors Gate to Sharnsberry, and presumed lost somewhere on Pikeside Fell to the nOrth of Hamsterley Forest. UTWFRA responded with 40 volunteers. It was confirmed at 3am that the girls were back in Sunderland but by then the search teams were on the fell, and it was dawn before all searchers returned to base. |

Expectant mother Mrs Judith Shann, of 18 Hill Terrace, Middleton was pulled nearly two miles omn a sledge from Middleton to Romaldkirk on Monday afternoon because the road was blocked. members of the Upper teesdale fell rescue took her on their special stretcher-sledge to Romalkirk. |

A blizzard was sweeping over Teesdale on Wednesday afternoon as Tom Andrews drove his small blue van through Barnard Castle and up into the dale. He was on his regular round, delivering spare parts to garages and taking orders for any equipment they needed. The van broke down and was quickly covered by heavy snow. UTWFRA team members were called to help look for the vehicle and then later for Mr Andrews who was not with the car. Team members and police searched an extensive area. Nothing found. |

A young expectant mother was pulled over half a mile on a sledge on Saturday after her home in Aukside, Middleton, was cut off by deep snowdrifts. The Upper Teesdale Fell escue team was called in and a special sledge was carried up to Mrs Galbraith. 6 Team members pulled and carried the sledge down to Middleton. |

HIGH FORCE HORROR. Girl, 23, plunges to death in swollen North Waterfall.
The 23 year old girl fell into the river above High Force Waterfall. Members of UTWFRA pulled her body out of the river half a mile downstream. |
