RESCUE TEAMS IN 16 HOUR SEARCH
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team were involved in an extensive search over the weekend for a missing man from the Derwenside area of County Durham. The man in his 20's went missing on Friday morning and the Police were concerned for his welfare. His car was found in Waldridge Village nr Chester-le-Street around 5pm on Friday close to an area of extensive woodland.
Team Leader Pete Bell said " We were called out by Durham Police on Friday evening when 10 Mountain Rescue volunteer searchers carried out a systematic search of areas close to the car till around 3am. We resumed the search on Sat morning with the assistance of a further 10 members of North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team, around 20 Police officers and the Police helicopter. Around 3pm one of the Mountain Rescue search groups found a body of a male person in wooded area of Cong Burn west of Waldridge Village. Because of the remote location both Mountain Rescue Teams assisted the Police to recover the body about a mile to a road.
