23rd March 2008 RESCUE FROM GIBSON CAVE
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team where called out today (Sunday) at 15:00hrs to assist in the recovery of an injured man. The man had been walking with his family towards Gibsons Cave a popular beauty spot near Bowlees in Upper Teesdale, County Durham. Chris Roberts, Deputy Team Leader said "the man was apparently walking along the path when he slipped and possibly fractured his lower leg. An ambulance from Barnard Castle and the Great North Air Ambulance originally attended but the man was some distance from either the ambulance or the helicopter. Eight of our team members assisted the ambulance service in carrying the patient approx half a mile along the path back to the Bowlees car park where he was transferred to the ambulance and taken to hospital. The weather at the time was heavy snow showers but this did not delay the recovery
