26th September 2017 EXTENSIVE MULTI AGENCY SEARCH IN DURHAM
Multi-agency search in Durham
The team were called this morning (26/09/17) to search for a male from the Shincliffe area of Durham. The man, who had been suffering from dementia, was last seen at 12.30pm the previous day and was reported missing by his wife later that afternoon. TWSMRT had 13 team members on the ground with a canoeist & kayaker on the Wear and were joined by a coastguard helicopter from Prestwick, 6 local police officers,a fire & rescue crew and appliance plus water rescue team with raft from Bishop Auckland, and later police air support from W.Yorkshire. After an extensive multi-agency search, the man was spotted late afternoon in a drainage culvert by the police helicopter on the northern edge of the city. He was extricated to a waiting ambulance by DDFRS & TWSMRT and taken to hospital for precautionary assessment.
