18th September 2016 MOUNTAIN RESCUE EXERCISE TURNS INTO REAL THING
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team spent most of today (Sunday) in Hamsterley Forest on one of the monthly exercise. Within the space of 2 hours they were called to assist at 2 incidents in the same forest. Incident 1 came just after lunch when a mountain biker came off his bike near The Grove. The Team were first to attend and after stabilising the young man the decision was made to transport him in the Team ambulance to University Hospital Durham. The exercise had just restated when the Team received a call to assist North East Ambulance Service after another mountain biker was injured in the forest. A Team medic assisted with the treatment of the casualty before he was loaded onto a mountain rescue stretcher and carried to a waiting ambulance. Pete Bell Team Leader said………
