28th June 2012 RESCUE TEAM INVOLVED IN COUNTY DURHAM FLOODS
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team have tonight been assisting in the floods which have affected many parts of County Durham. Steve Owers Deputy Team Leader said " We were initially put on standby by the Police around 5.30pm and one of our Team members attended Silver Command set up by the Police at Aykley Heads. In the mean time three of our Team members who live in and around the Lanchester area became involved in checking vulnerable people who's homes were in danger of flooding. Within 45 minutes water started to enter properties in the Church View Villas area and assisted by the local PCSO our Team members organised local residence to evacuate elderly residents to the Kings Head Public House. As the river level continued to raise we brought in a group of our swiftwater rescue technicians who are trained to carry out rescues in flood conditions to assist local residents."
