1st October 2010 BUSY WEEK FOR LOCAL RESCUE TEAM
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team based in County Durham have had their busiest period for some time in the past 4 days.
On Monday evening the team carried out a search for a young man missing from home in countryside to the West of Consett. No one was found and the man later made contact with a friend.
On Wednesday the Team assisted North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and Northumbria Police in the search for a lady missing from a bed and breakfast close to Derwent reservoir on the Durham/Northumberland border since Sunday. The search covered difficult woodland and the very steep valley of the River Derwent. A mobile phone which belonged to the lady was found but she is still missing. This search is expected to go on into the weekend.
Later on Wednesday night the Team were called out by Durham Police to search areas of Waldridge Fell near Chester-le-Street for a 72 year old man missing from home. Nothing was found and the search recommenced on Thursday where a combined mountain rescue and police team found the body of a man in Cong Burn woods at Chester-le-Street.
Steve Owers Team spokesman said " Although we have had more than 50 callouts so far this year we have been fairly quite for the last few weeks. As all mountain rescue team members are volunteers the past few days have put a strain on our resources but we have always managed to respond to incidents. We would like to thank the employers of some of our team members for allowing them time away to attend theses callouts.
