28th November 2017 TWO CASUALTIES FOUND AT SAME TIME IN SAME VILLAGE
Two Casualties Found in Same Village
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team had an unusual callout this afternoon (Tuesday) when they found two casualties when they were only looking for one. The Team were called out just after lunch by Durham Police to search for a gentleman who had been missing since 7.30 am from the village of Billy Row near Crook Co. Durham. 10 team members and a mountain rescue search dog searched open land surrounding the village. Just before it got dark the police received a call from a dog walker to say he had heard shouting from a nearby wood. Police officers attended and found the missing gentlemen. He was taken to hospital in the Mountain Rescue ambulance. Steve Owers, Team Leader said “At the same time one of our search teams at the other side of the village found a vulnerable man lying beside a stream. He was checked over and warmed by Team medics and handed into the care of the Police.”
“This was a very unusual set of circumstances. The search group who found the second casualty were convinced they had found the guy they were looking for. Part of our protocols are always ask a casualty their names. We have often joked it’s just in case we find the wrong casualty. Amazingly today this was this case.”
